Across the palmar aspect of the hand, the deep transverse metacarpal ligaments span between the adjacent metacarpal heads, forming stout fibrous bridges at the level of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints. The bands run transversely and sit volar to the metacarpals, closely related to the MCP joint capsules and the fibrocartilaginous volar plates, while remaining dorsal to the superficial palmar tissues. Distally, the proximal phalanges and flexor tendon sheaths align with the ligamentous arch, and proximally the carpal framework and distal palmar structures provide context for orientation.
