Description
Positioned concentrically around the oral fissure, the orbicularis oris is rendered as a red muscular ring spanning the upper and lower lips, anchored medially at the oral commissures and draped superficial to the maxillary and mandibular alveolar processes. Lateral profile bony landmarks remain visible, including the maxilla, mandible, dentition, and the contour of the nasal bones, giving clear anterior to posterior depth from lip margin back to the oral vestibule. Superiorly the muscle abuts the base of the nose, while inferiorly it approaches the mental region of the mandible. Cervical vertebrae appear posterior and inferior to the cranial base, establishing head and neck orientation.
