Description
Across the palmar concavity, a superficial lymphatic plexus forms a fine network over the palmar aponeurosis, extending distally toward the digital pads and proximally to the wrist crease where collecting vessels course toward the volar forearm. The metacarpals and phalanges sit deep to this meshwork, while the flexor tendons to the digits run longitudinally beneath, framed by thenar and hypothenar musculature on the radial and ulnar sides. Blue neural elements trace the expected paths of the median nerve centrally and the ulnar nerve medially, with their digital branches paralleling the palmar arches. Small-caliber lymphatic channels track alongside these neurovascular corridors but remain superficial to most tendon substance. Palmar lymphatic anatomy gets overlooked because it is delicate, but it matters when edema, cellulitis, or lymphangitis tracks from a fingertip or palmar wound toward the forearm. This anterior perspective maps how superficial collecting vessels can follow the same surface territory involved in palmar lacerations, burn injuries, and postoperative swelling after carpal tunnel release or Dupuytren fasciectomy.
