Seen from the lateral aspect beneath the skin, the distal leg transitions into the lateral foot with the fibula positioned lateral to the tibia and the calcaneus forming the posterior heel pad. The gastrocnemius and soleus converge inferiorly into the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon, inserting on the posterior calcaneus just superior to the plantar surface. Along the lateral malleolar region, the peroneus (fibularis) longus and brevis tendons track posterior to the fibula and continue distally toward the cuboid and fifth metatarsal, while the dorsolateral contour suggests the extensor digitorum longus tendons heading toward the lesser toes. Portions of the tarsus, metatarsals, and phalanges appear through sectional anatomy, with lateral ligamentous bands spanning the hindfoot and midfoot. Clean landmarks.
