Description
Centered on the midline of the anterior skull, the paired nasal bones are highlighted and sit inferior to the frontal bone at the nasion, where the frontonasal suture meets the internasal suture. Laterally, each nasal bone articulates with the frontal process of the maxilla, forming the medial margin of the piriform aperture, while the bony orbits lie superolateral with the zygomatic bones contributing to the cheek prominence. Inferiorly, the maxilla supports the upper dentition and frames the nasal cavity, with the mandible and its teeth visible below in anatomical position. Clear cranial sutures outline the frontal and parietal bones, and the upper cervical vertebrae appear inferior to the occipital region. Anterior emphasis on the nasal bridge matters because the nasal bones are the most commonly fractured facial bones, and displacement at the nasion or along the frontomaxillary region can accompany septal hematoma, airway compromise, or more complex naso-orbito-ethmoid injuries.
