Centered on the nasal apex (tip), the outer surface includes the lobule formed by the paired alae nasi laterally and the intervening soft tissue triangle, with the columella descending in the midline to meet the philtrum superior to the upper lip. From this anterior-most point, the dorsum nasi extends superiorly toward the nasal root, while the alar rims curve inferolaterally to define the nares. At the apex, skin and subcutaneous tissue drape over the lower lateral (alar) cartilages, whose domes sit just deep to the tip-defining points.
