Description
Arising from the styloid process of the temporal bone, the styloglossus descends anteroinferiorly and medially, passing deep to the mandible to reach the posterolateral tongue, where its fibers blend with the intrinsic musculature along the lateral margin. Close by, the stylohyoid ligament courses from the styloid process toward the hyoid bone, creating a recognizable styloid apparatus that frames the muscle’s proximal attachment.
