Description

Across an anterior view of the male skull, the superior palpebral arterial arch is highlighted as a curved anastomotic arcade within the upper eyelid, spanning laterally to medially along the superior tarsal region near the lid margin. Small palpebral arterioles feed into the arch, which lies superficial to the tarsal plate and deep to orbicularis oculi, with its course framed by the orbital rim of the frontal bone superiorly and the palpebral fissure inferiorly. Overlaid head and face vasculature places the arch in context with the ophthalmic artery system in the orbit and adjacent facial vessels across the nasal bridge and cheek. Surgeons and clinicians care about this arcade because eyelid perfusion hinges on it, and disrupting it can turn a clean upper blepharoplasty or ptosis repair into delayed wound healing or lid-margin ischemia. The relationship between the superior palpebral arterial arch and the medial and lateral palpebral arteries also explains why lacerations near the lid margin can bleed briskly and why hemostasis may require attention to both canthi rather than a single point. Tiny vessel, big consequences. Teaching use cases include head and neck anatomy labs, ophthalmology and oculoplastics lectures, and atlas-style figures that need the palpebral circulation placed against bony orbital landmarks for orientation. It also fits well in surgical consent materials and CME content covering eyelid trauma repair, chalazion incision planning (to avoid unnecessary vascular injury), and flap design for upper-lid reconstruction. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
