Description
Dominating the left lateral calvaria, the parietal bone is highlighted in blue as a broad, gently convex plate forming the superior and posterolateral wall of the cranium. Anteriorly it approaches the frontal bone at the coronal suture, posteriorly it meets the occipital bone along the lambdoid suture, and inferiorly its squamous border overlaps the temporal bone near the region of the squamous suture. The parietal eminence lies centrally on the outer table, while the contour of the temporal fossa is suggested just inferior to the parietal margin, above the zygomatic arch and external acoustic region. Lateral parietal anatomy matters because it is a common site of blunt head trauma and calvarial fracture patterns, and its relationship to the temporal bone helps orient the clinician to the pterion region where the middle meningeal artery runs deep to thin bone and epidural hematoma can develop after seemingly minor impact. Surface landmarks on the parietal bone also guide burr hole placement and craniotomy planning when approaching the convexity for subdural evacuation or access to the underlying parietal lobes.
