Description

Anterior trunk and proximal limb contours are rendered semi-transparently to expose superficial and deep lymphatic vessels coursing from the scalp and face into the cervical chain, then inferiorly toward the supraclavicular region and into the axilla. Prominent nodal groups cluster in the submandibular and deep cervical regions, the axillary nodes along the lateral thoracic wall, and the inguinal nodes inferior to the inguinal ligament at the proximal thigh. Slender collecting vessels track medially along the upper limb toward the axillary basin and from the lower limb toward the femoral and inguinal chains, while the spleen sits in the left upper quadrant, lateral to the stomach and inferior to the diaphragm. A low, slightly oblique viewpoint biases attention to the upper torso and nodal basins. For clinical teaching, this arrangement matches the pathways used in lymphatic mapping and oncologic staging. Breast carcinoma most often spreads first to the axillary sentinel node, so the spatial relationship between the lateral breast, axillary tail, and axillary node levels is easier to explain when the collecting vessels are visible rather than implied. Cervical and supraclavicular nodes also anchor head and neck infection patterns and raise specific red flags, including a left supraclavicular (Virchow) node as a sign of intra-abdominal malignancy via lymphatic drainage.
