Description
Partially transparent integument and cranial bones reveal the cerebral hemispheres with cortical gyri and sulci, with the brain positioned superior to the nasal and oral cavities and filling the cranial vault. Superficial and deep branches of the trigeminal nerve (V) radiate across the forehead, midface, and mandible, while the facial nerve (VII) courses anterolaterally to supply the muscles of facial expression around the orbit, nose, and mouth. Posteriorly and inferiorly, upper cervical nerves blend with the greater and lesser occipital nerves in the scalp, framing the lateral face in the same field as key cranial nerve exit regions at the orbit and skull base. Skin contours, hair, and facial landmarks remain readable beneath the neuroanatomy. Cranial nerve topography in a face-on presentation matters when you need to correlate symptoms to a lesion level, from trigeminal neuralgia along V2 or V3 distributions to facial palsy patterns involving VII.
