Posteriorly, the cranial cavity contains the brain, continuous inferiorly with the brainstem and cervical spinal cord as it passes through the foramen magnum into the vertebral canal. The spinal cord descends in the midline and gives rise to paired spinal nerves that exit segmentally, with dorsal rami coursing posteriorly to the paraspinal region and ventral rami forming plexuses that send long peripheral nerves into the upper limb and lower limb. Yellow peripheral nerves track laterally from the trunk into the shoulder girdle and arm, and inferiorly across the gluteal region into the thigh, leg, and foot. Skin and superficial musculature are rendered semi-translucent to keep the neuraxis readable. A posterior whole-body rendering is the clearest way to teach the continuity of central nervous system and peripheral nervous system while keeping the spinal cord and segmental nerve roots visually anchored to the vertebral column. It also supports clinical localization: symptoms from cervical radiculopathy, lumbar disc herniation affecting the L5 or S1 root, or a spinal cord lesion can be mapped back to the relevant level before you ever name a specific peripheral nerve. Pattern recognition matters.
