Description
Emerging along the anteromedial thigh, the vastus medialis forms the teardrop-shaped muscular mass just deep to the skin, its distal fibers angling inferomedially toward the medial border of the patella. Superiorly, its belly lies anterior to the adductor magnus and longus region and medial to the rectus femoris and vastus intermedius, while posteriorly the hamstring compartment (including semimembranosus) sits deeper and more posterior along the femur. Distally, the quadriceps tendon continues into the patella and patellar ligament, with the medial patellar retinaculum blending along the patellar margin and tibial flare. Clear landmarks anchor the view. Patellar tracking lives and dies on this anatomy.
