Sphenoid body (corpus ossis sphenoidalis) occupies the midline of the skull base, and an anterior, frontal perspective brings the rostrum sphenoidale and the sphenoidal crest into focus as they descend toward the nasal cavity. Lateral to this midline ridge, the anterior face of the sphenoid sinus region is evident, positioned inferior to the planum sphenoidale and anterior to the sella turcica that lies on the superior surface. Superiorly, the body meets the ethmoid at the sphenoethmoidal junction, while inferior articulation with the vomer is suggested by the sharply defined rostrum. Midline anatomy dominates. Understanding the anterior aspect of the sphenoid body matters whenever you are orienting the central skull base relative to the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. The rostrum and adjacent sinus walls provide key bony landmarks for endoscopic transsphenoidal approaches to pituitary lesions, and they also define where variations in sphenoid sinus pneumatization can thin the bone and complicate surgical entry or reconstruction.
