Seen from a posterior perspective in a semi-transparent adult male head, the cerebral hemispheres are framed by the tentorial region and occipital skull outline while the posterior circulation is traced in red over the dorsal brainstem and cerebellar surface. Vertebral arteries ascend on either side of the medulla and unite at the pontomedullary junction to form the basilar artery, which runs superiorly along the ventral pons before bifurcating into the posterior cerebral arteries around the level of the midbrain.
