Description
Arising as slender fibrous bands between adjacent transverse processes, the intertransverse ligaments are presented from a posterior perspective along the thoracic and lumbar vertebral column, with their segmental attachments running lateral to the spinous processes and laminae. Posterior elements of the vertebrae frame the midline, while the ribs articulate posteriorly with the thoracic vertebrae and sweep laterally to form the rib cage. Inferiorly, the sacrum anchors the column within the pelvic ring, with the iliac crests flanking the lumbosacral junction, and the scapulae lie posterolateral over the upper ribs as key surface landmarks. Orientation is clear. Intertransverse ligaments matter most when you are teaching or planning approaches that traverse the paraspinal corridor, because they blend with the deep thoracolumbar fascia and sit immediately adjacent to the intertransverse muscles and the segmental neurovascular structures that pass between transverse processes.
