Arising from the lateral aspect of the dorsal venous network, the lateral marginal vein courses along the lateral border of the foot, running superficial to the fifth metatarsal and curving posteriorly toward the lateral malleolus. In a true lateral perspective, the vein tracks over the cuboid region and toward the calcaneal tuberosity, with the fibula and distal tibia framing the ankle superiorly and the calcaneus forming the posterior weight-bearing contour. Peroneus (fibularis) longus and brevis tendons lie deep and slightly anterior as they pass behind the lateral malleolus, while the Achilles tendon inserts posteriorly on the calcaneus.
