Description
Arising from the ulnar artery just distal to the elbow, the anterior ulnar recurrent artery curves proximally on the anterior aspect of the proximal ulna, tracking toward the medial side of the joint. Its short recurrent course runs deep to the superficial flexor mass, typically passing near the medial epicondyle as it approaches the periarticular arterial network. Medially, it relates to the humeroulnar articulation and coronoid process, while laterally the brachial artery bifurcation and radial recurrent pathway sit as adjacent landmarks. Small muscular branches along its path supply the flexor-pronator compartment. This anterior perspective matters because the anterior ulnar recurrent artery is one of the key contributors to the elbow anastomosis, linking distal brachial collaterals with forearm recurrent branches to preserve perfusion during flexion and during transient compression across the cubital fossa.
