Oriented from the anterior aspect of a male shoulder, the capsule is opened to emphasize the superior, middle, and inferior glenohumeral ligaments spanning from the anteroinferior glenoid rim and labrum toward the anatomical neck of the humerus. Superiorly, the clavicle overlies the acromial end of the scapula, while the humeral head sits lateral to the glenoid fossa, framed by the coracoid process medially and the greater and lesser tubercles laterally. The Z shaped banding of the capsuloligamentous complex reads clearly in this projection, with the inferior glenohumeral ligament complex forming the dominant anterior restraint in abduction and external rotation. Short, direct, and legible. Clinical teaching often reduces anterior shoulder stability to the rotator cuff, but this view keeps attention on the static stabilizers that fail in anterior instability. The anterior band of the inferior glenohumeral ligament is the structure placed on stretch during the apprehension position, and it is commonly involved with a Bankart lesion when the anteroinferior labrum avulses after anterior dislocation.
