Description
Oriented from the anterior aspect of the male shoulder girdle, the proximal humerus sits lateral to the thorax with its head articulating medially into the glenoid cavity of the scapula. Superiorly, the clavicle spans from the sternum toward the acromion, framing the roof of the glenohumeral region while the anterior scapular elements remain partially visible behind the joint. Across the front of the capsule, bandlike thickenings correspond to the glenohumeral ligaments (superior, middle, and inferior) and the coracohumeral ligament, forming a layered restraint between the glenoid rim and the anatomic neck of the humerus. Ribs and costal cartilages provide an anterior thoracic backdrop and reinforce orientation. Anterior capsuloligamentous anatomy matters because this is where laxity and traumatic failure often declare themselves clinically. The inferior glenohumeral ligament complex, tensioned in abduction and external rotation, is the main checkrein against anterior translation, the same position implicated in common anterior dislocation patterns and associated Bankart lesions of the anteroinferior labrum.
