Description
Anterior cervical vertebrae are presented from the front, with the vertebral bodies stacked superior to inferior to form the cervical portion of the vertebral column. Flanking each body, the transverse processes project laterally and frame the transverse foramina, a defining feature of C1 to C7 that transmits the vertebral artery in most individuals. The superior and inferior endplates and uncovertebral margins (uncinate processes, when visible) outline the intervertebral disc spaces, while the pedicles and posterior elements sit deeper and posterior, largely hidden from a true anterior viewpoint. Small bones. Big consequences. Clinically, an anterior view clarifies the load-bearing contour of the cervical vertebral bodies and the alignment landmarks used when assessing fracture, subluxation, and postoperative fusion. It also brings attention to the uncinate processes and uncovertebral joints, a common source of foraminal stenosis from osteophytes that can correlate with cervical radiculopathy.
