Description
Palmar anatomy centers on the flexor pollicis brevis, positioned in the thenar eminence superficial and lateral to the first metacarpal, with its muscle belly leading distally toward the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb. Medial to it lies the adductor pollicis mass, while the abductor pollicis brevis typically sits more superficial and lateral, forming the radial border of the thenar contour. Proximally, the flexor tendons traverse deep to the palmar aponeurosis, and at the wrist level the flexor retinaculum region provides the proximal frame of reference for the thenar musculature and the entering neurovascular structures.
