Description
Facing the cerebrum from an anterior perspective, the paired frontal lobes dominate the superior half of the composition, separated at the midline by the interhemispheric (longitudinal) fissure. Each frontal pole sits anterior to the central sulcus region, and the precentral gyri are suggested by the surface relief of the anterior cortex, with gyri and sulci modeled to convey true cortical topography. Inferiorly, the cerebellar hemispheres and vermis are visible posterior to the pons, while the brainstem descends in the midline beneath the cerebral hemispheres. Color differentiation highlights one cerebral hemisphere against the contralateral side, helping orient left versus right within the telencephalon. An anterior view is the cleanest way to teach midline relationships without the distraction of the basal surface, and it clarifies how far the frontal lobe projects beyond the rest of the hemisphere. For clinical correlation, this angle aligns with bedside localization for frontal lobe syndromes, where lesions near the precentral gyrus produce contralateral motor weakness and more anterior involvement can alter executive function, affect, and behavior. Midline frontal pathology also matters. Parasagittal meningiomas along the falx cerebri or anterior cerebral artery territory infarcts often present with leg-predominant weakness because the motor homunculus for the lower limb lies on the medial frontal cortex.
