Description
Centered in the frame, the fifth thoracic vertebra (T5) is presented from the anterior aspect, with the vertebral body occupying the midline and the vertebral foramen opening posterior to it. Lateral to the body, the pedicles lead into the transverse processes, which project laterally and slightly posteriorly, while the superior and inferior vertebral notches help form the intervertebral foramina when adjacent vertebrae are aligned. Facet surfaces are indicated on the articular processes, and the costal demifacets on the posterolateral margins of the body are positioned to meet the head of the rib. Bone texture is kept realistic. For thoracic level identification, T5 matters because it sits in the mid-thoracic segment where rib articulations, kyphotic curvature, and a relatively narrower spinal canal shape how disease presents and how surgeons plan exposure. The anterior vertebral body is the key load-bearing element, so this view supports discussions of wedge compression fractures, burst fracture morphology, and the anterior column in Denis classification, as well as the rationale for anterior reconstruction with corpectomy cages and plate fixation.
