Description
Anteriorly, the T8 vertebral body dominates the view, with a slightly heart shaped centrum and a shallow concavity that would contribute to the anterior wall of the vertebral canal posteriorly. Along the superolateral and inferolateral margins of the body, the superior and inferior costal demifacets (foveae costales) sit in vertical alignment, positioned to receive the head of the 8th rib and share articulation with the adjacent thoracic vertebrae. Lateral to the body, the pedicles lead toward the transverse processes, which in a true thoracic vertebra bear transverse costal facets for the tubercle of the corresponding rib. Bone texture reads as cancellous beneath a thin cortical shell. This anterior perspective matters because it isolates the costovertebral joint landmarks without the visual clutter of the laminae and spinous process, making it easier to teach how the rib head bridges the inferior demifacet of T7 and the superior demifacet of T8 with the intervertebral disc forming the third articular surface.
