Description
Medial inspection of the right lung’s superior lobe brings the hilum into view, with the right main bronchus dividing into the eparterial (superior lobar) bronchus and accompanying pulmonary arterial branch coursing superior to it. Pulmonary veins lie more anterior and inferior in the mediastinal surface, while bronchopulmonary (hilar) lymph nodes cluster around the bronchial bifurcation. Along the superomedial aspect, the apical (cupular) pleura rises toward the thoracic inlet, and the lobe’s fissural margin angles inferiorly toward the oblique fissure separating it from the inferior lobe. Color segmentation is used to distinguish the upper lobe territory and its internal pathways. Clinical work on the right upper lobe often hinges on this medial hilar anatomy because the eparterial bronchus is a right sided pattern and a frequent landmark during bronchoscopy, lobectomy, and lymph node sampling.
