Description
Posteriorly, the visceral surface of the male liver is oriented to highlight the renal impression (impressio renalis), the shallow fossa created by contact with the superior pole of the right kidney. The impression lies inferior to the bare area of the liver and lateral to the groove for the inferior vena cava, with the posterior margin of the right lobe curving around these landmarks. Medially, the hepatorenal recess (Morison pouch) is implied at the interface between liver and kidney. A firm contact zone.
