Description
Anterior abdominal anatomy centers on the adult male stomach (gaster, ventriculus, stomachus), with the cardia positioned superiorly and to the left of midline where the abdominal esophagus would enter, and the fundus dome projecting superior to that junction. The corpus (body) extends inferiorly and to the right toward the pylorus, where the pyloric antrum narrows into the pyloric canal at the gastroduodenal junction. Along the stomach’s medial border runs the lesser curvature, while the greater curvature sweeps laterally and inferiorly, defining the more convex left margin. Orientation reads cleanly. An intact, whole-organ rendering is often the fastest way to teach how surgical and endoscopic landmarks map onto the stomach’s external contours, including where the pylorus sits relative to the lesser curvature and where the fundus rises above the level of the cardia. Clinically, this spatial logic underpins interpretation of common pathology: peptic ulcer disease tends to cluster along the lesser curvature and antrum, while gastric volvulus relates to abnormal rotation around the organoaxial or mesenteroaxial axes, concepts that only make sense when the stomach is understood as a three-dimensional sac with defined poles and borders.
