Description
Arising from the left main bronchus, the left inferior lobar bronchus (bronchus lobaris inferior sinister) is presented from an inferior perspective as it courses posteroinferiorly toward the lower lobe, with its lumen oriented toward the basilar (pyramidal) segments. Segmental bronchi for the superior segment and the basilar group branch distally, their takeoff angles readable from below as they diverge laterally and posteriorly within the lower lobe. Adjacent pulmonary parenchyma frames the airway, and the relationship to the inferior pulmonary ligament region is implied by the caudal viewpoint. Orientation is unmistakably left sided. That inferior approach matters because it matches how many clinicians think about lower-lobe ventilation and drainage, and it clarifies why aspirated material and secretions often track into dependent basilar segments when a patient is supine.
