Sectional anatomy through the pars descendens duodeni reveals the mucosal folds and lumen of the descending duodenal segment, positioned to the right of the vertebral column and inferior to the pylorus. Along the posteromedial wall, the major duodenal papilla is identifiable as a focal mucosal elevation where the hepatopancreatic ampulla typically opens, with the longitudinal fold of the duodenum (plica longitudinalis duodeni) extending in its direction. The anterior relationship is emphasized, with the wall layers progressing from mucosa to submucosa and muscularis externa, and the medial contour orienting toward the pancreatic head.
