Presented from an anterior orientation, both lungs are rendered to emphasize their medial (mediastinal) surfaces, with color delineating the margins that face the mediastinum. On the left, the cardiac impression and adjacent mediastinal pleura sit medial to the upper and lower lobes, while the hilum occupies a central position where the root of the lung would enter. On the right, the broader mediastinal surface relates to the right atrium and superior vena cava, and the right hilum lies slightly more superior than the left in standard anatomical position.
