Description
Posteriorly, the liver’s diaphragmatic surface is oriented toward the viewer, with the right lobe occupying the right upper quadrant and the inferior border sloping anteroinferiorly toward the costal margin. The lateral division of the anatomical right liver is localized lateral to the right hepatic vein and the right portal pedicle, extending out toward the right triangular ligament at the superolateral margin. Medially, the plane toward the right paramedian sector (and the region of the gallbladder fossa on the visceral surface) is implied, even though the posterior aspect emphasizes the bare area and the relationship to the right hemidiaphragm. Clear boundaries matter. Precise posterior localization of the right lateral section is a practical map for hepatic surgery because the posterior aspect aligns with how the liver is mobilized off the diaphragm before parenchymal transection.
