Description
Arising from the body of the pubis just inferior to the pubic crest, the adductor longus is highlighted as a paired medial thigh muscle with a broad proximal origin that narrows into a distal tendon. From a posterior perspective, its belly lies medial to the femoral shaft and courses inferolaterally to reach the middle third of the linea aspera, placing it posterior to the pubic symphysis and anterior to the deeper adductor magnus in the expected layer. The skeletal pelvis, sacrum, acetabula, and proximal femora provide orientation, including the femoral head and neck, greater and lesser trochanters, and the distal femoral condyles. Posterior visualization of adductor longus matters because its proximal tendon and myotendinous junction are common sites of groin pain in athletes, including adductor strains and tendinopathy near the pubic attachment. That relationship to the pubic body and adjacent pectineus and gracilis origins is a frequent point of confusion in teaching, and it also guides palpation and targeted injection planning when managing chronic adductor-related groin pain. Clear distal tapering toward the linea aspera also helps explain why adductor longus contributes to hip adduction and flexion without crossing the knee.
