Description
Anteriorly, the duodenum is seen transitioning into the jejunum and ileum as densely coiled small intestine occupying the central and lower abdomen of an adult female figure. Jejunal loops tend to lie more superiorly and to the left of midline, while ileal loops cluster more inferiorly and toward the right iliac fossa, approaching the ileocecal junction. The bowel sits deep to the anterior abdominal wall, with the greater omentum and transverse colon region implied as superficial and superior relationships even when not fully rendered. Mesenteric tethering organizes the coils. Spatial clarity of small-intestine position matters when you need to explain pain patterns and obstruction levels: proximal duodenal obstruction often produces early, copious vomiting, while more distal ileal obstruction classically distends the mid to lower abdomen with later vomiting. This anterior perspective also supports teaching the mobility of jejunum and ileum compared with the retroperitoneal fixation of much of the duodenum, a distinction that guides operative planning and interpretation of internal hernia sites after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Landmarks become easier to narrate when learners can map loops to quadrants. Use this asset in gross anatomy lab manuals, gastrointestinal physiology lectures, or patient-facing education where an uncluttered 3D model helps correlate abdominal surface anatomy with underlying jejunum and ileum. It also fits surgical teaching on small-bowel obstruction, adhesions, and laparoscopic port planning, where a midline view helps orient trainees before discussing trocar placement and safe entry.
