Positioned in posterior view of the male knee, the popliteal artery runs deep within the popliteal fossa, closely accompanied by the popliteal vein as they pass behind the distal femur and over the posterior aspect of the tibial plateau. Superiorly, these vessels align with the adductor hiatus region of the femur and descend to the level where the tibia lies medially and the fibula laterally, framing the neurovascular corridor behind the joint.
