Description
Centered in anatomical position, the adult female skeleton is presented in neutral standing posture with the skull superiorly, the vertebral column running in the midline, and the thoracic cage forming an anterior and lateral shield around the upper trunk. Cranial bones frame the orbits and nasal aperture, and the mandible sits inferior to the maxilla with dentition visible. Inferior to the sternum and ribs, the pelvis spans between the sacrum posteriorly and the paired hip bones laterally, continuing into the lower limbs through the femora, tibiae, and fibulae, while the upper limbs hang lateral to the thorax with humerus, radius, ulna, and the articulated bones of the hands. Female osteology is not a generic variant. The pelvic morphology, including a broader pelvic inlet and a wider subpubic angle, is a primary teaching and forensic point for sex estimation, and it also sets the bony constraints relevant to obstetrics and cephalopelvic disproportion. Full-body articulation clarifies how axial alignment (cervical lordosis, thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis) influences load transfer across the sacroiliac joints, hip joints, knees, and ankle mortises.
