Hypophysis (pituitary gland) occupies the hypophyseal fossa of the sphenoid bone, seated within the sella turcica beneath the diaphragma sellae. The anterior lobe (adenohypophysis) forms the larger, more glandular portion, positioned anteroinferior to the posterior lobe (neurohypophysis), which lies posteroinferior and continues superiorly as the infundibulum (pituitary stalk). Superior to the gland, the suprasellar cistern region and the expected position of the optic chiasm provide key spatial context; laterally, the cavernous sinuses and cavernous segment of the internal carotid arteries frame the sellar compartment.
