Description
Anterior anatomy of the female lower respiratory tract is presented in situ, with the trachea descending in the midline from the laryngeal inlet and bifurcating at the carina into the right and left main bronchi. The right main bronchus courses more vertical and slightly wider as it enters the right lung hilum, while the left main bronchus angles inferolaterally beneath the aortic arch region toward the left hilum. Within each lung, the bronchial tree branches into lobar bronchi, and the lungs occupy the pleural cavities lateral to the mediastinum, their apices extending superiorly toward the thoracic inlet and their bases resting on the diaphragm. Surrounding surface context of the head, neck, and thorax supports the airway continuity from nasal cavity to intrathoracic bronchi.
