Description

Within the thorax, the bronchi course inferolaterally into the lung hila, where lobar and segmental bronchi arborize through the right lung (superior, middle, inferior lobes) and left lung (superior and inferior lobes) around the cardiac notch. Overlaid surface anatomy clarifies how the lungs sit lateral to the mediastinum and superior to the diaphragm, filling most of the rib cage posterior to the sternum.
