Description
Anterior whole-body anatomy is presented in upright position, with superficial lymphatic vessels traced over the integument of an obese adult male. Cervical lymph nodes cluster along the anterolateral neck, continuing inferiorly toward the supraclavicular region, while prominent axillary nodes sit lateral to the pectoral region and receive lymphatics ascending from the upper limb. In the trunk, superficial collectors converge toward the axillae superiorly and toward the inguinal lymph nodes inferiorly, with limb vessels running proximodistally along the medial arm and medial leg before returning proximally to their nodal basins. Bilateral inguinal nodes occupy the groin, superior to the proximal thigh and lateral to the pubic region. Clear watershed territories. Obesity reshapes lymphatic drainage in clinically familiar ways, increasing lymphatic load and predisposing to chronic edema, recurrent cellulitis, and secondary lymphedema when collectors fail or when nodes are disrupted. This distribution also maps the first-echelon pathways used in oncology, for example axillary drainage for much of the upper limb and chest wall, and superficial inguinal drainage for much of the lower limb and anterior abdominal wall below the umbilicus. The anterior cutaneous overlay makes surface anatomy correlations straightforward when planning physical examination and documenting palpable lymphadenopathy. Suitable for teaching lymphatic territories in gross anatomy, nursing assessment modules, and surgical oncology content on nodal basins and lymphatic mapping. It also fits patient-facing education for lymphedema care, compression therapy counseling, and postoperative expectations after axillary dissection or groin node surgery.
