Description
Arising from the undersurface of the liver, the gallbladder is presented from a posterior angle with attention on its fundus and body tapering inferiorly and medially into the infundibulum (Hartmann pouch) and the beginning of the cystic duct. The visceral surface of the right hepatic lobe forms the superior relation, while the gallbladder fossa anchors the organ to hepatic parenchyma. Posteriorly, the outline implies the hepatocystic triangle where the cystic duct approaches the common hepatic duct, with the biliary convergence lying medial to the gallbladder neck. Orientation is kept in standard anatomical position for hepatobiliary anatomy. Posterior viewing of the gallbladder base and neck matters because this is the surgical geography of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, where limited depth cues and inflammatory distortion can turn normal variants into dangerous traps. A short cystic duct, a low insertion into the common hepatic duct, or an enlarged Hartmann pouch from chronic cholecystitis can obscure the junctional anatomy and contribute to bile duct injury if the critical view of safety is not obtained.
