Description
Medial anatomy of the male foot and distal leg is rendered with the tibia and fibula superiorly articulating with the talus, and the calcaneus forming the posterior heel beneath the subtalar region. Along the medial longitudinal arch, the tarsus (navicular, medial cuneiform) aligns anteriorly with the first metatarsal and the phalanges, creating a clear bony scaffold for the course of the vasculature. Red arterial channels track posterior to the medial malleolus into the plantar foot, while blue superficial and deep veins mirror this route, returning proximally toward the leg. Bony landmarks stay explicit. A medial perspective is the one clinicians think in when localizing pulses and planning incisions around the tarsal tunnel. The posterior tibial artery and accompanying veins pass deep to the flexor retinaculum just posterior and inferior to the medial malleolus, where tarsal tunnel syndrome and iatrogenic vascular injury can coexist with tibial nerve compression.
