Description
Anteriorly, the telencephalon is presented with the paired lateral ventricles opened to reveal the choroid plexus as ruffled vascular fronds along the medial ventricular walls, adjacent to the septum pellucidum and coursing toward the region of the interventricular foramina. Superiorly, the cerebral hemispheres show prominent gyri and sulci, while inferiorly the brainstem aligns in the midline beneath the diencephalic floor. In the same frontal perspective, the arterial supply is emphasized in red, with the circle of Willis at the base of the brain and the optic chiasm highlighted in yellow anterior to the pituitary stalk region. Spatially, the plexus sits deep to the cortical mantle, medial to the caudate nucleus head region, and superior to the optic apparatus. Choroid plexus anatomy matters because it is the dominant site of cerebrospinal fluid production and a common anatomic reference when teaching the ventricular system in relation to basal cisterns and major arteries. In clinical practice, its relationship to the anterior circulation and the foramen of Monro frames discussions of obstructive hydrocephalus, and it also helps differentiate normal enhancing plexus from intraventricular pathology on contrast MRI and CT. A small structure. A frequent source of confusion.
