Posterior anatomy of the male knee is rendered with the distal femur superiorly and the proximal tibia and fibula inferiorly, with the fibular head defining the lateral margin of the joint. The circumflex fibular artery courses around the posterolateral aspect of the proximal fibula, passing deep to the lateral head of gastrocnemius and adjacent to the tendon of biceps femoris near its insertion on the fibular head. Branching patterns are shown linking posterior tibial inflow to the anterior tibial system via perigenicular anastomoses, with small arterioles feeding the capsule and periosteum. Bony contours and articular cartilage help anchor the vascular relationships in true anatomical position. This posterior perspective matters because the circumflex fibular artery is a consistent contributor to collateral circulation around the knee and proximal tibiofibular joint, where flow becomes clinically relevant when the popliteal artery is stenosed or acutely injured.
