Description
Posterior body surface landmarks frame an overlaid gastrointestinal tract in a Black adult female, with the esophagus descending in the midline through the thorax to the stomach, which sits in the left upper quadrant beneath the costal margin. Inferior to the stomach, jejunal and ileal loops occupy the central abdomen, their mesentery implied by the organized coil pattern, while the large intestine forms a peripheral frame with the ascending colon on the right, transverse colon crossing superiorly, descending colon on the left, and sigmoid colon curving toward the midline pelvis. The cecal region lies in the right lower quadrant, and the rectum continues inferiorly within the posterior pelvis. Spatial relationships read clearly against the back, with abdominal viscera projected anterior to the lumbar spine and posterolateral abdominal wall.
