Description

Posterior cardiac anatomy centers on the coronary sinus coursing horizontally in the posterior atrioventricular (coronary) sulcus, where it collects venous return before entering the right atrium near the inferior vena cava. The great cardiac vein approaches from the left, running with the circumflex artery, while the middle cardiac vein ascends in the posterior interventricular sulcus alongside the posterior interventricular (posterior descending) artery. Along the right margin, the small cardiac vein tracks the right atrioventricular groove toward the sinus. Tributaries such as the posterior vein of the left ventricle and oblique vein of the left atrium converge on the sinus, draping over the posterior surface of the left atrium and left ventricle.
