Description
Arising from the frontal bone near the medial supraorbital margin, the depressor supercilii is rendered as a short, deep slip that courses inferiorly to blend with the medial eyebrow and the superior fibers of orbicularis oculi. From a lateral perspective, its relationship to the superomedial orbit is clear, with the muscle positioned anterior to the frontal sinus region and superior to the nasal bone and upper lateral nasal cartilages. Deep to the brow soft tissues, the bony landmarks of the frontal bone, nasal bone, maxilla, and mandible provide orientation, while the orbital cavity sits just posterior to the muscle’s superficial insertion area. The cervical vertebrae align inferiorly as a reference column beneath the cranial base. Depressor supercilii anatomy matters when you want to explain glabellar and medial brow depression without conflating it with corrugator supercilii or procerus.
