Description
Running along the palmar aspect of the male hand, the digital synovial sheaths (vaginae synoviales digitorum manus, vaginae tendinum) are positioned anterior to the phalanges and closely applied to the flexor tendons as they traverse the metacarpals and digits. The carpal bones form the proximal bony backdrop, with the metacarpals extending distally to the proximal, middle, and distal phalanges; the synovial-lined tunnels course centrally within each digit from the region of the metacarpophalangeal joints toward the distal interphalangeal level. Superficial venous channels are also visible over the dorsopalmar contour, lying anterior to the osseous framework and providing surface landmarks that contrast with the deeper tendon compartments.
