Description
Across the dorsum of the male forefoot, the dorsal metatarsal veins course in the intermetatarsal spaces superficial to the metatarsals and the dorsal aspects of the metatarsophalangeal joints. Distally, small dorsal digital venules from the phalanges converge into paired channels that run proximally between adjacent metatarsals, with transverse interconnections typical of the dorsal venous network. Proximally, these vessels angle toward the dorsal venous arch, lying over the tarsometatarsal region and tracking toward the medial and lateral margins where the great and small saphenous pathways begin.
