Description
Arising along the anterior cranial base, the ethmoidal vein is rendered in relation to the cribriform plate of the ethmoid and the midline crista galli, positioned anterior to the sella region and superior to the nasal roof. From an inferior perspective at the base of the brain, venous channels course alongside arterial counterparts and the paired olfactory bulbs and tracts, while the optic nerves and chiasm sit posterior to the ethmoidal region and anterior to the hypothalamic structures. Cranial nerves III through XII radiate from the midbrain, pons, and medulla in orderly sequence, with the basilar artery and its branches occupying the ventral surface of the brainstem. Color coding separates nerves (yellow) from arteries (red) and veins (blue). Orientation is unmistakable. This vantage matters because ethmoidal venous drainage sits at the boundary between sinonasal spaces and intracranial compartments, a corridor where infection and thrombophlebitis can traverse emissary connections and reach the anterior cranial fossa.
